Craft Group
About us
The Craft Group has been a much-loved part of Grenoside Community Centre since around 2005, when a group of ladies from the Women’s Institute decided they wanted to get creative together. What started as watercolour painting lessons has grown over the years into a wonderfully varied group where members teach each other new skills, try new crafts and enjoy a great morning out!
Over the years the group has explored a huge range of crafts, including watercolour and pastel drawing, cross stitch, tapestry, embroidery, knitting, quilling, hardanger, felting, flower arranging and Tiffany-style stained glass work. There’s always something new to try, and the group’s knowledge and enthusiasm is truly inspiring.
The group is no longer part of the WI, having opened its doors to all — and it’s all the richer for it!
Knitting for Good
One of the group’s most heartwarming contributions is their knitting for premature babies and orphanages. Members knit coats, bootees, hats and blankets, and have been generously supported by other knitters in the village who donate spare wool. It’s a small gesture that makes a big difference.

Who can join
Open to all — whether you’re a complete beginner or a seasoned crafter, you’ll be made very welcome! The group currently has 14 members and there is a small attendance fee of £1.50 per session to cover room hire. Members bring their own materials and refreshments.
Oh, and if it’s your birthday — the group has a very important tradition. We’ll be expecting cake! 🎂
