About us
The Grenoside and District Local History Group has been bringing history to life since 1997, when it grew out of a local education class. For nearly 30 years, the group has been researching, recording and sharing the fascinating history of Grenoside and its surrounding area and there’s always more to discover!
Membership is open to anyone with an interest in the area, and the group warmly welcomes people who no longer live locally but have memories, memorabilia or photos they’d be willing to share. If you’ve got a connection to Grenoside, past or present, you’ll find a home here.
What we do
The group’s meetings are varied and always interesting, with a mix of:
- Visiting speakers covering a wide range of local and family history subjects
- Workshops and informal research sessions
- Access to the group’s extensive archive of local material
- Support for members pursuing their own individual research
- Organised visits to places of historical interest
And of course, free tea, coffee and chocolate biscuits are always provided! ☕🍫

Membership
The annual subscription is £32. There is currently no waiting list, so new members are welcome to join at any time. Organised visits to places of historical interest are also available for a small additional charge.

🗓️ Exhibition — 17th and 18th May, 10am to 4pm Come and see the group’s latest exhibition, showcasing a wide range of research into the history of the Grenoside district. Taking place in the Lower Hall at Grenoside Community Centre, Main Street, Grenoside S35 8PR. Admission is free, refreshments are available and there is free parking. All welcome!
